  1. Managing Organization

Managing Teams in an Organization

Organizations can centrally manage their teams and Team Owners. Organization Owners and Admins can control whether members can create teams, review ownership status, and transfer ownership when the current owner is unavailable.

Allowing members to create teams#

By default, Organization Members cannot create teams in an organization. Organization Owners and Admins can enable this permission from the organization's Roles and Permissions settings.
Once enabled:
Organization Members can create teams under the organization from the Home page.
The newly created team belongs to the organization.
The member who creates the team becomes its Team Owner.
The member does not gain access to organization management pages.

To allow members to create teams:
1.
Open the organization settings.
2.
Go to Roles and Permissions.
3.
Enable the option that allows Organization Members to create teams.
Organization Owners and Admins can create organization teams regardless of this setting.

Viewing Teams and Team Owners#

Organization Owners and Admins can review Teams and Team Owners from the organization's team management page.
The team list shows:
The Team Owner assigned to each team
The current status of the Team Owner - if there are abnormalities such as inactive account, it will show.
Team Status including Normal and teams that may require an ownership transfer.
You can search or filter the list by Team Owner and owner status.

Transferring Team Ownership#

Organization Owners and Admins can transfer ownership of one or more organization teams. This is useful when the current Team Owner has left the organization or can no longer access their account.
To transfer ownership:
1.
Open the organization's team management page.
2.
Select one or more teams.
3.
Click Change Owners.
4.
Select the new Team Owner.
5.
Confirm the transfer.

When transferring multiple teams, all selected teams are assigned to the same new owner.
Transfer Ownership changes the Team Owner only. It does not move the team into or out of the organization.

Eligible Team Owners#

The new Team Owner must:
Have a usable Apidog account
Be an active member of the organization
If the organization uses SAML SSO, the member must also have an SSO identity associated with the organization.
Members who are pending, removed, disabled, or not fully associated with the organization's SSO identity cannot be selected.

What happens after the transfer#

After Team Ownership is transferred:
The newly assigned owner becomes the Team Owner.
If the new owner is not already in the team, Apidog automatically adds them.
If the previous owner remains in the team, their role changes to Team Admin.
The ownership transfer is recorded in the organization's Audit Logs.

Team Ownership transfer vs. team transfer#

These operations serve different purposes:
OperationWhat changes
Transfer OwnershipChanges the Team Owner without changing the team's organization.
Transfer into an organizationMoves an existing team into the organization.
Transfer out of an organizationRemoves a team from the organization and places it in the assigned Team Owner's personal team space.
For information about transferring teams into or out of an organization, see Managing Organization.
